Amazon already offers some of the best prices around, but last Friday the company accidentally took its popular discounts to new levels. Between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. local time, thousands of items were all listed at just 1p on Amazon’s UK website, though the e-commerce giant is already working to fix the problem.
The glitch was caused by Repricer Express software used by third-party sellers to automatically optimize their prices on Amazon. The Ireland-based company issued an official apology on Monday, promising that sellers wouldn’t be affected by the issue.
“We take a lot of pride in the levels of service we provide so everyone here is disappointed that our customers have experienced this issue,” said Repricer Express CEO Brendan Doherty.
Amazon says it was able to quickly cancel most 1p orders before processing, and plans to review any it failed to block. It seems unlikely any of those orders will actually go through, so don’t worry if you missed out on your chance to take advantage of the Amazon glitch. Like we said, there’s still plenty of great deals available on the company’s website that aren’t caused by software bugs.
