We didn’t necessarily have high expectations going into Terminator: Genisys (yes, that’s the correct spelling), but after seeing the official trailer, we’ve come away pleasantly surprised. We don’t expect the new Terminator film to be amazing or blow or minds. But, considering how wayward the previous films have been, we’re excited to see how this one pans out.
The story is a little convoluted, but essentially it explains that the original Terminator looked after Sarah Connor the whole time. Not really sure I buy that, especially given her reaction to him (initially) in Judgement Day. But it is what it is; it’s still cool to see Arnold in the same role nonetheless, battling a version of one of his biggest adversaries.
The idea is that one of John Connor’s soldiers goes back in time to protect Sarah Connor even before the first film takes place, only to find out that a Terminator has already been sent to protect her. Yeah, confusing, but all will be explained in more detail when the film hits next year. Expect a lot of yelling, destruction and even the classic, “Come with me if you want to live” line. All the right Terminator bases are covered, if you were wondering. There’s even a ridiculous bus flip (a la Terminator 3) for good measure.
We’re excited. Nothing beats the first two films, of course, but let’s hope this is more Terminator and Terminator 2, and less Terminator Salvation. Genisys is scheduled to hit theaters in July of next year.
