As expected, work on\u00a0<em>The Sims<\/em> continues.\u00a0Here\u2019s the full statement.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Today we are consolidating Maxis IP development to our studios in Redwood Shores, Salt Lake City, Helsinki and Melbourne locations as we close our Emeryville location. Maxis continues to support and develop new experiences for current Sims and SimCity players, while expanding our franchises to new platforms and developing new cross-platform IP.<\/p>\n<p>These changes do not impact our plans for The Sims. \u00a0Players will continue to see rich new experiences in The Sims 4, with our first expansion pack coming soon along with a full slate of additional updates and content in the pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>All employees impacted by the changes today will be given opportunities to explore other positions within the Maxis studios and throughout EA. \u00a0For those that are leaving the company, we are working to ensure the best possible transition with separation packages and career assistance.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>SimCity<\/em> support should continue, though which studio will develop the game\u2019s future entries remains to be seen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Original story:\u00a0<\/strong>EA has closed another of its studios. This time around, it\u2019s Maxis, the folks behind\u00a0<em>SimCity<\/em> and creators of\u00a0<em>The Sims<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The word comes from several developers around Twitter, but the one with the Tweet that\u2019s taking off is Guillaume Pierre.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Well it was a fun 12 years, but it&#39;s time to turn off the lights and put the key under the door. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RIPMaxisEmeryville?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#RIPMaxisEmeryville<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Guillaume Pierre (@DesignGuillaume) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DesignGuillaume\/status\/573203901081509888?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 4, 2015<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>EA hasn\u2019t made any announcements regarding the closure yet. They also haven\u2019t indicated what they have in mind for the\u00a0<em>Sim<\/em> franchise, though it\u2019s certainly valuable enough to keep around.<\/p>\n<p>I imagine the publisher will shift all things\u00a0<em>Sim<\/em> to another studio. Before the most recent\u00a0<em>SimCity<\/em>, Maxis had a great track record. Hopefully the developers from the studio find work quickly.
