The company announced plans this week\u00a0to start testing a new Internet service with download speeds well beyond what it currently offers.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The super-fast broadband connection uses\u00a0DOCSIS 3.1, which was unveiled back in 2012. It supports speeds of up to 10Gbps down\u00a0and 1Gbps up according to an article written for <em>LightReading<\/em> at the time. The technology\u00a0works by packing more information into the same space compared to the current DOCSIS 3.0 equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2012,\u00a0companies like Comcast have been focused on bringing the cost down while ironing out the specifics.\u00a0Trials for\u00a0DOCSIS 3.1 are set to start\u00a0later this year, though there\u2019s no word on when you\u2019ll actually be able to sign up for the service.
