Dr. Dre\u2019s new album, which is exclusively available through iTunes and Apple Music, has been streamed 25 million times in its first week, according to figures released by Apple. \u201cCompton: A Soundtrack\u201d has also sold half a million copies through iTunes.<\/p>\n

The new album, which features\u00a016 brand new tracks, is Dre\u2019s first album in 16 years, and includes collaborations with the likes of Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Kendrick Lamar, and others. Apple is using its impressive performance figures to promote Apple Music for artists.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re beginning to show what we can do in terms of communicating music to a worldwide audience and helping artists at the same time,\u201d Jimmy Iovine, who joined the Cupertino company when it acquired Beats for $3 billion last year, told\u00a0The New York Times.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cCompton\u201d had around 11 million streams in the U.S. alone, and those taking advantage of Apple Music\u2019s free trial can enjoy the whole thing as much as they like free of charge.<\/p>\n Despite its half a million iTunes sales, however, \u201cCompton\u201d hasn\u2019t quiet performed well enough to reach Billboard\u2019s top album spot, with\u00a0\u201cKill the Lights\u201d from country star\u00a0Luke Bryan expected to beat it to number one when the album chart is released on Monday.<\/p>\n Perhaps sales of \u201cCompton\u201d will be boosted even further when it\u00a0goes on sale through other outlets. iTunes has exclusivity for two weeks, but\u00a0after that, the album will be available from other retailers.<\/p>\n
