Since Apple launched its new Apple News service in iOS 9 last month, it has already attracted more than 40 million users, company CEO Tim Cook has confirmed. That figure is even more impressive when you consider Apple News is currently only available in three countries.<\/p>\n

News, which replaces the Newsstand app on iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch, is Apple\u2019s answer to things like Flipboard and Zite \u2014 an aggregation service that aims to provide users with the latest stories from their favorite\u00a0newspapers, magazines, and blogs.<\/p>\n
Until just last week, when the service reached users in the U.K. and Australia, Apple News was only available to users in the U.S.. And yet, it has already attracted more than 40 million users, according to data released by Cook during Apple\u2019s earnings call on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
It should be noted that Apple didn\u2019t specify exactly how active these users are. Although it could be counting\u00a0users who have opened the app once and never looked at it again, we can only assume that it is only taking into account those that use it fairly regularly.<\/p>\n
If that\u2019s the case, this is a very impressive figure so far. Apple News will only grow more popular as it rolls out to new markets and gets new features over time, which must be somewhat worrying to the creators of rival news apps and services.<\/p>\n
