{"id":3508,"date":"2017-06-16T13:18:37","date_gmt":"2017-06-16T20:18:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kmtechblog.com\/?p=3508"},"modified":"2017-06-16T13:18:37","modified_gmt":"2017-06-16T20:18:37","slug":"xbox-boss-offended-sonys-reason-blocking-cross-play","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kmtech.blog\/?p=3508","title":{"rendered":"Xbox boss offended by Sony\u2019s reason for blocking cross-play"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The head of the Xbox team, Phil Spencer, has expressed a measure of frustration or offense with how Sony reacted to questioning about their choice to block cross-play.<\/p>\n<p>This all came up as\u00a0<em>Minecraft<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Rocket League<\/em>\u00a0are set to work across the PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch platforms in cross-play. If I own those games on my Switch, for instance, I\u2019ll be able to play with you on your Xbox One.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Sony\u2019s Jim Ryan spoke with\u00a0<em>Eurogamer<\/em>\u00a0about\u00a0their choice to stay out of that deal, and one of the lines of reasoning he offered was that they didn\u2019t want to risk their customer\u2019s safety by letting them play out of their walled garden, so to speak.<\/p>\n\n<p>Spencer spoke with the\u00a0<em>Giant Bomb<\/em>\u00a0crew about this during E3, as transcribed by\u00a0<em>Polygon<\/em>. He clearly gives the impression that he\u2019s at once baffled and upset by Sony\u2019s position on this matter. Here\u2019s what he said.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe fact that somebody would kind of make an assertion that somehow we\u2019re not keeping\u00a0<em>Minecraft<\/em>\u00a0players safe, I found \u2014 not only from a Microsoft perspective, but from a game industry perspective \u2014 like, I don\u2019t know why that has to become the dialogue. Like, that doesn\u2019t seem healthy for anyone\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2026We take the safety of Xbox Live, of our players across all of our games \u2014 inside of\u00a0<em>Minecraft<\/em>, obviously an incredibly important part of that \u2014 it\u2019s incredibly important to our team\u2026 We would never put\u00a0<em>Minecraft<\/em>\u00a0in a place where we felt like [\u2026] we weren\u2019t keeping our players safe.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This all feels like a very odd thing to be going on between companies.
