On Tuesday,\u00a0the trial came to the close with a unanimous \u201cnot guilty\u201d verdict from the jury.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The entire case hinged on several iTunes software updates which may have deleted music from certain iPod models purchased between 2006 and 2009. However, Apple argued that its only goal was to rollout new features and improvements to its music products. In their verdict, the jury called iTunes 7.0 a \u201cgenuine product improvement\u201d that enhanced the user experience with new features including added security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe created iPod and iTunes to give our customers the world\u2019s best way to listen to music,\u201d the company said in an official statement to <em>The Verge<\/em>. \u201cEvery time we\u2019ve updated those products \u2014 and every Apple product over the years \u2014 we\u2019ve done it to make the user experience even better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cupertino faced fines\u00a0of as much as $1 billion for violating antitrust laws, though the original complaint asked for just $350 million.\u00a0Apple\u2019s opposition says it\u2019s already planning to appeal the jury\u2019s decision, so the iPod-maker may not be in the clear just yet.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sourcevia-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"sourcevia fCaps fLS0\"><span class=\"label fLS1\">SOURCE<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2014\/12\/16\/7402695\/jury-decision-in-iTunes-iPod-DRM-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">THE VERGE<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apple was back in court this month over claims that the company used DRM software to block music from iTunes competitors on certain iPod models.
