The GTA Online portion of Grand Theft Auto V is pretty nifty. There’s a lot of room to do what you want, when you want and how you want, as long as it jives with the general flow of the community at large.

One of the greatest downfalls (aside from the still missing Heists feature) is the character “customization.” Customization goes in quotes there because every single character, male or female, winds up looking insanely similar in GTA Online. The creator, quite frankly, is terrible. We’ve all seen this guy, right?

When GTA Online makes the new generation leap next week onto the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, that online character will have the opportunity to look much better.

The image you see at the head of this post comes from an email update from Rockstar Games. It’s in that same note that they offer this about the customizable online characters.

The Next Generation Character Creator.

Give your GTA Online player a dramatic makeover thanks to the new customization options that the overhauled character creator offers. Create a brand new character from scratch or take your current guy or gal for a bit of cosmetic surgery in true Los Santos fashion.

It’s gotta be better than what we had on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, right?

Before you ask, they did mention GTA Online Heists in the update. Here’s that exact line as well.

And get ready for continuing free content Updates for Grand Theft Auto Online, including the highly-anticipated launch of Online Heists (which, to be absolutely clear, will be available for all four consoles to enjoy).

That’s it. No timing or release window announced, just word that’s it’s coming and definitely to all consoles. Odd that they don’t mention the PC version slated for Jan. 27, but we’ll assume that’s nothing more than dropped because that version isn’t launching in less than seven days.

We’ll have more on the new gen port of Grand Theft Auto V as we have it.
