Google Voice now supports native MMS messaging on Verizon Wireless, meaning it now works with all major carriers in the U.S. and Canada. The service has actually been able to send MMS to non-Voice users since last month, but it was a little cumbersome and required recipients to follow a link to a photo, rather than the photo showing up in the message itself; for Verizon users, the feature tended not to work at all, but that’s been fixed.

Unfortunately, MMS support for group messaging still isn’t quite there, though it should come in a future update. That’s about it for now. If you’re still avidly using Google Voice, it should act a lot more like a traditional messaging service; the new support works when you opt in to Google Voice in Hangouts.
