In addition to introducing compatibility for 18 more banks and credit unions in the United States, Google has announced that it has partnered with PayPal to provide customers with the facility to spend their PayPal Balance using Android Pay.

The feature will start rolling out over the next few weeks, though it’ll only be available for users in the U.S. However, in a statement issued to Pocket-lint, PayPal revealed that it hopes to expand the integration to other markets in the future.

Using PayPal with Android Pay will work in exactly the same way as a regular credit or debit card; simply place an NFC-enabled smartphone on a card reader or payment terminal, then authorize the payment if necessary. That’s all there is to it.

The partnership should drive new customers to Android Pay

Forming a partnership with PayPal should drive some new customers to Android Pay, as there are plenty of users who’ve been requesting a way to spend their PayPal Balance in retail stores without withdrawing the funds, and now they finally can.
