NVIDIA on Friday announced that it’s issuing a voluntary recall of the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet, arguably one of the best Android tablets on the market. It’s voluntary so, in other words, the government or some other watchdog group didn’t ask it to do so, it decided to pull the tablet on its own. But why?

The company said that its 8-inch SHIELD Tablet has issues overheating as a result of battery issues, and that consumers might face a fire hazard with the device. It affects NVIDIA SHILED tablets sold between July 2014 and July 2015 (last month), which means pretty much all of the devices are at risk. The recall doesn’t apply to NVIDIA’s other SHIELD branded products, so if you have the original SHIELD Android/controller hybrid or the TV, you’re OK.

“NVIDIA is also asking consumers to stop using the recalled tablet, except as needed to participate in the recall and back up data,” the company said. ” Consumers will receive a replacement tablet after registering to participate in the recall.” Hit the source for more details.
