Nest 3rd generation is official with a bigger screen, new features

Less than a week after it first leaked, Nest’s new thermostat is official. The third-generation smart home gadget offers an improved display and new features .

The new Nest boasts a thinner design. At the same time the display is bigger and brighter (2.5 inches across at 229 pixels per inch), with a thinner bezel surrounding it. Under the hood you’ll also find more sensors, making the device more accurate than before. The third-generation thermostat can tell when your house gets drafty or your furnace isn’t working right. The company notes that its new “Furnace Heads-Up” feature will be available for earlier Nest models later this year.

Another new feature, called Farsight, can tell as soon as you walk into the room. Once Nest senses you it can quickly show the temperature or time, and thanks to that big bright display you should be able to see it from the other side of the room.

You can pick up the new Nest now for $249. The company is also still offering its second-generation model at the discounted price of $199 while supplies last.
