Was this ever really in doubt? Ever since we heard Google wouldn’t sell its new flagships through carrier partners, we were pretty positive the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P would support Project Fi. After all, last year’s Nexus 6 already does, and it looks like Google is ready to build out an army of devices that support the search giant’s wireless network.
The Cliff’s Notes of Project Fi are that it’s basically using different carrier networks to offer a consistent and reliable connection, whether through Wi-Fi or LTE. You can check out our video coverage of the project here. And if you’re interested in signing up, you’ll get unlimited talk and text, unlimited international texts, low-cost international calls, Wi-Fi tethering and 3GB of data for $50 per month. You can get up to 10GB of data plus the aforementioned perks for $120 per month.
Of course, you can just as easily use the Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P with Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon or AT&T, as it looks like both phones will have the necessary bands to support many different carriers at launch. But if Project Fi is your preferred network, looks like you’ll have more devices to use with it soon.
