Uber recently announced that, back on Christmas Eve, two riders in London officially made the company’s 1 billionth trip. Driver Ara picked up passenger Marvin in London Fields, Hackney in a blue Honda Insight and made the £5 trip to Hoxton, Uber said in a blog post announcing the news.
The duo gets a pretty sweet bonus for playing a part in the milestone. “We’re putting one year’s worth of free rides in rider Marvin’s stocking and our driver-partner Ava will be taking a vacation on us to the Uber city of his choice,” Uber said. The firm is also going to make a donation to a charity based in the town of Hackney, the origin of the now famous ride.
Talk about good luck. If I had a year’s worth of Uber rides, I’d probably end up selling my car. And the driver? He gets to choose from one Uber city out of 68 countries. Guess I’ll keep riding along in hopes I win the 2 billionth ride.
