It’s been almost a year since Facebook first introduced the list of trending topics that lives to the right of your News Feed. Now, that same feature is finally headed to your smartphone along with a few new enhancements.
To access the new feature just tap the search button in Facebook’s app and you’ll immediately see a list of trending topics. Pick one to generate a series of cards with more details on the story, conveniently tagged with different labels. For example, “Articles” obviously indicates a post from an official news organization, while “Friends and Groups” will include reactions from people you know. There’s also “In the Story” for perspective from the subject of a trending topic, “Near the Scene” for first-hand accounts, and a “Live Feed” of posts from people all over the world.
Facebook is updating its Trending stories on its main website with the same new tags today. The update is rolling out now for desktop and Android in the U.S., while support for iOS and other countries is “coming soon.”
