If you’re a prominent member of the Twitch community, the popular streaming service announced Friday it will hold an event in San Francisco dedicated specifically to you. But don’t start packing just yet; TwitchCon isn’t scheduled to kick off until the end of September.
Twitch CEO Emmett Shear explained the two-day event is meant to celebrate fans, broadcasters and partners of the platform. Game streaming has become an increasingly lucrative market over the past twelve months, and the event will be used as an opportunity to further the conversation around Twitch culture.
“TwitchCon will be an opportunity for the entire community—broadcasters, game developers, viewers, and us—to play and learn together,” Shear said.
People from all over the globe are expected to attend, so I’d start planning now if I were you. If you do get the opportunity to go, you’ll be able to mingle with folks who share your same interests, and maybe even see some of the platform’s top broadcasters do their thing live.
Ticketing information, schedules and all that pertinent information will be forthcoming. For now, Twitch just wanted to get a “Save the Date” out there. The service launched a sitededicated to the event, along with a new Twitter account for more immediate updates.
TwitchCon will take place on Sept. 25 and 26.
