Master Chief finally has a scheduled date for his current generation debut. A live-action trailer that aired during season finale of The Walking Dead announced that Halo 5: Guardians will be released for the Xbox One of Oct. 27.

The trailer itself doesn’t reveal a whole lot about the game. No gameplay or cutscenes or anything of the sort. Spartan Locke delivers an impassioned little speech about the loss of a battle, and he berates a weakened Master Chief for allowing the fight to be lost. The Chief, with a bullet in his shoulder, is unable to fight back before Locke pulls a pistol on him, and the trailer cuts away.

Nice little trailer to set up the hype machine. I sometimes really miss those “Finish the fight” commercials Microsoft had back when Halo 3 was close to launching, and while this doesn’t come nearly as close to the emotional grip of those, it suffices. The only question is now are we starting a fight, continuing a fight, or finishing a fight. I’m a little behind on my Halo continuity these days.
