Tesla is set to announce a totally new product on Thursday night, and you’ll be able to watch the announcement online. The company said this morning that it plans to livestream the event, which kicks off at 8 p.m. Pacific.
Tesla’s tweet includes a teaser image, though it doesn’t reveal much about Tesla’s plans. We get the final outline of some sort of object. The words “The missing piece” suggest that whatever gets announced will tie-in with the rest of the company’s lineup.

Rumor has it Tesla is will unveil a home battery, something CEO Elon Musk already offers through a separate firm called SolarCity. The new batteries will apparently be available to rent with an upfront installation fee followed by small monthly payments.
You’ll presumably be able to charge the battery overnight when electricity costs less, and then use it to power everything in your house throughout the day. It could also prove useful during a power outage.
We’re still waiting for the specifics, and it’s possible Tesla could surprise us with something else entirely. At this point a battery seems pretty likely though, and it will be interesting to see how Musk pitches the new product.
