Get ready: Beats 1 radio, Apple Music’s new 24/7 streaming radio station, will officially hit the airwaves at 8 a.m. Pacific next Tuesday, June 30, the same day that Apple Music will launch. Normally we wouldn’t care much about a single radio station, but Beats 1 actually sounds pretty compelling. The news was revealed by Apple Music senior director Ian Rogers, the former CEO of Beats Music.

The U.S. version will be hosted by Zane Lowe from BBC radio out in LA, and Ebro Darden in NYC. It will feature individual shows from artists such as Dr. Dre, Elton John, Drake and others, in addition to new music and live interviews with artists such as Eminem, who will be among the first artists interviewed on Beats 1. Beats 1 radio is also going to be free to anyone who is signed in with an Apple ID, so you don’t need to be a subscriber to Apple Music, which will cost $9.99 per month.

The launch of Beats 1 radio also tells us that iOS 8.4 with Apple Music will be deployed right around the same time, since users will need that app to access Beats 1 radio. We’re excited to give it a whirl, though still not sure if it’s going to be enough to make us give up Spotify.
