Electronic Arts announced yesterday that the United States cover of FIFA 16 will feature the US Women’s National Team Forward, Alex Morgan, alongside FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, with different women appearing on the cover based on region.

FIFA 16 marks the first appearance of women’s teams in the series and is the most prominent game to do so by far. It makes sense, then, to feature some of the more prominent athletes in the women’s league.

“It’s an incredible honor to be one of the first women featured on the cover of EA Sports FIFA,” said Morgan in a prepared statement. “I know people all over the world play this game and I’m really excited that FIFA 16 is putting such an important spotlight on women’s soccer.”

In Canada, Morgan will be replaced by Captain of the Canadian Women’s National Team Christine Sinclair, while Australia’s release will feature Australian Women’s National Team Defender Stephanie Catley.

FIFA 16 releases September 22 on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
