Square Enix is bringing a healthy balance of games from both its Japanese and Western libraries to Gamescom 2014. While not an overlarge selection of titles, it has reserved a whopping 180 stations to show off its offering of multiplayer games.

On the console and PC front, we have the free-to-play shooter Nosgoth and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris representing its Western studios, and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 REmix and the wonderful MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn coming from Japan.

No wonder it has 180 stations set up! Square Enix has to recreate an MMO community within a convention hall! 48 of these stations will be dedicated to allowing gamers to take on huge boss battles again Leviathan, Ramuh and Gilgamesh. Others will be allowed to take on the PVP mode.

On the handheld front, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call makes up the most interesting of the bunch, and it’s the only game on a traditional handheld platform. Final Fantasy music fans are awaiting this huge rhythm game jam packed with their favorite songs, and Final Fantasy XIV Producer Naoki Yoshida and Director Ichiro Hazam are scheduled for a live head-to-head match in front of a crowd.

Dragon Quest IV, making its debut on phones in English, and the mobile version ofDragon Quest VIII will also make an appearance, showing that Square Enix is tossingDragon Quest fans at least something in English, even if it’s just ports with choppy animation, stripped voice acting, and claustrophobic settings. Stick with the Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2 versions if you want the best editions of these games.

Gamescom 2014 will be held August 13 through 17. There’s nothing particularly huge or revelatory, meaning we’ll have to wait for TGS. Any interest in Square Enix’s line-up?
