There’s going to be a new Pee-wee Herman movie, and it’s exclusively coming to Netflix (presumably this year). The streaming service on Tuesday said production will begin next month, kicking off an all new adventure for one of Hollywood’s most iconic characters. Even if you haven’t seen his TV show or movies, you know Pee-wee; you recognize the voice and trademark suit and bowtie.

It might seem strange to bring back a character that’s been out of the spotlight for so long, but here’s the thing: Judd Apatow (Anchorman, Bridesmaids) is slated to produce the film, while Paul Rust (Comedy Bang! Bang!, Arrested Development) is handling writing duties. Meanwhile, John Lee (Broad City, Inside Amy Schumer) is taking over directing duties, so there’s a lot of terrific talent involved.

“We didn’t hesitate for a moment knowing that Peewee’s Big Holiday was such a passion project for Paul and Judd and we are delighted by the opportunity to introduce such a beloved character to a new generation,” said Netflix’s Ted Sarandos in a press release.

The film will follow Pee-wee as he takes his first-ever vacation in a story about “friendship and destiny.” You can bet it’ll have the usual Pee-wee trademarks, along with plenty of dry humor and wit.

Bringing Pee-wee back again proves that services like Netflix are capable of resuscitating some of Hollywood’s quirkier projects. I mean, the fact that Wet Hot American Summer is making its triumphant return is a perfect example. Once more news for Pee-wee’s Big Holiday hits, we’ll be sure to let you know.
