And the name of Android O is… Android Oreo. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise seeing as Google accidentally referenced the delicious treat ahead of today’s reveal.

The famous chocolate cookie, which was introduced more than a hundred years ago, always seemed like the obvious choice as the name of Google’s next mobile update. The company has used a popular treat name before—Android K was Kit Kat—so today’s announcement was expected.

Oreo is one of the most recognizable names in the food industry, making Google’s decision all the more safe. Besides, what other desert was the company going to choose? Oatmeal isn’t exactly looked upon with the same reverence as a bag of Oreos.

We can likely expect plenty of promotional tie-ins as Google attempts to get the word out. Hey, our new mobile software has a name! as Jimmy crams his face with cookies. Is an Oreo even a cookie? Or is it technically a sandwich? That’s a debate for another day.

As to when you’ll be able to get your hands on the final release, it’s complicated. Android 8.0 Oreo will be uploaded to the Android Open Source Project today, with updates being carrier tested for the Pixel, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. It’s unclear, however, when an OTA will be available.
