Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire came, saw, and conquered its crowdfunding campaign after only a single day. Developer Obsidian Entertainment went through Fig this time, as opposed to Kickstarter, and it dominated its goal of $1.1 million in under 24 hours.

Unlike Kickstarter, Fig offers equity to backers, and up to $2.25 million is available through this campaign. As of writing, the game has already secured $1.6 million through 15,210 backers, and it has 28 days remaining to see how much it can scrounge up.

Obsidian must be, once again, thrilled to be the stars of the crowdfunding scene.

Success is delivered to those who deliver

Of course, Obsidian is getting a huge boost thanks to its credibility from the first game. Pillars of Eternity was pitched on Kickstarter as a passion project and a throwback to classic RPGs like Baldur’s Gate. Gamers liked what they saw and made Pillars of Eternity the biggest Kickstarter game of all time at $3.9 million.

Obsidian delivered a nearly flawless product that was all it promised to be, one where the passion for classic RPG storytelling could be practically felt to the touch. Because of this, Obsidian is getting the financial backing it needs to make a proper sequel.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire currently finds itself looking for funding alongside two other high-profile projects: The Banner Saga 3 and an equally interesting RPG based on the film classic Apocalypse Now.
